Get involved

Learning is step one. Here's how to turn understanding into action — and where to find the official, authoritative sources.

Take action

Find & contact your legislators

The Permanent Fund is decided by the people you elect. Find your Alaska Senate and House members, then tell them what you think — it takes five minutes, and constituent messages genuinely carry weight.

Who represents you?

Enter your ZIP to get started. Because a single ZIP can cover more than one district, we'll point you to the Legislature's official address tool for your exact Senate and House members.

Do your homework

Look up their voting record

Before you write, see how your legislators have actually voted. The Legislature's official BASIS system shows the roll call for every bill — open a bill, scroll to the votes, and find your member by name.

2018

SB 26 — the POMV draw

Created the 5% Percent-of-Market-Value rule that governs how much is spent from the Fund each year. A foundational vote. Look it up on BASIS →

Every year

The operating budget & the dividend

Each year's budget sets the dividend amount and whether the Fund is inflation-proofed. The floor votes show exactly where each member stands. Find recent budget votes →

Ongoing

Constitutional protection amendments

Proposals to lock the dividend or the draw into the constitution. Watch how your legislators vote when these come up. Search the bills →

Tip: on a bill's BASIS page, the “Roll Call” entries list every legislator's Yea or Nay. The records are official and nonpartisan — see the votes for yourself rather than taking anyone's word.

Make it easy

1. Protect and grow the Fund

Dear [Senator / Representative ____], I'm a constituent from [your city], Alaska, and I'm writing to ask you to protect and grow the Alaska Permanent Fund. The Fund is now the largest single source of revenue for our state, and it belongs to all of us. I'm asking you to support a sustainable draw that lets the Fund keep growing, to keep depositing a healthy share of resource revenue into the Principal, and to back durable — ideally constitutional — protections so the Fund can't be weakened by any single year's budget. The Alaskans who created this Fund in 1976 saved a windfall for our generation. I'd like us to do the same for the next one. Please be a champion for the long-term health of the Permanent Fund. Thank you for your service, and for considering my request. Sincerely, [Your full name] [Street address, city, ZIP] [Email / phone]

2. Fully fund inflation-proofing

Dear [Senator / Representative ____], I'm a constituent from [your city], and I'm writing about something that rarely makes headlines but matters enormously: inflation-proofing the Permanent Fund. State law directs the Legislature to move earnings into the Principal each year so the Fund keeps its real value. When that transfer is skipped, inflation quietly shrinks the Fund — and every future dividend — even when the dollar figure looks bigger. It's a hidden loss for every Alaskan, and it has happened in recent budgets. Please vote to fully fund inflation-proofing this year, and support making it automatic so it isn't sacrificed whenever budgets are tight. Protecting the Fund's buying power is one of the most important things we can do for the next generation of Alaskans. Thank you for considering my request. Sincerely, [Your full name] [Street address, city, ZIP]

3. A fair, predictable dividend

Dear [Senator / Representative ____], I'm a constituent from [your city], and I'm writing about the Permanent Fund Dividend. Since 2016 the dividend has been set through an annual political fight, which leaves families unable to plan and pits the dividend against essential services. I'd like you to support a clear, sustainable, and predictable approach to the dividend — ideally one protected so it can't be cut on a whim — while keeping the Fund itself healthy for the long term. The dividend is Alaskans' share of a resource we all own, and research shows it meaningfully reduces poverty. Please work toward a stable, fair approach that respects both the dividend and the Fund's future. Thank you for your service. Sincerely, [Your full name] [Street address, city, ZIP]

Three ways to make a difference

Tell your legislators

The dividend and the draw are decided every session. A short, specific message from a constituent carries real weight. Find and contact your legislators through the official directory.
